Is there any reason Japan should go for an indigenous bomb when it is protected under the American nuclear skirt?

It would be stupid for the Japs to even think along those lines.

I had always believed that Japan knowing the repercussions of the atomic bomb will always refrain from its use an manufacture - when all the nations are head on heels for acquiring the nuclear power Japan has always utilized the technology for its energy requirement putting the know-how to the best use.

Though, there is little military advantage for Japan to develop nuclear weapons as China, its main potential adversary, but the nation is safer under the US nuclear umbrella. However, North Korea�s development of nuclear weapons may have instigated Japan to be into this run of nuclear hegemony.

Japan has not made this statement because it�s not capable of doing it - we’ll know they are. Neither they’re afraid nor are they still looming under the aftermaths of the nuclear bombs; they’ve pulled themselves out of it long back. It�s because they have seen it and the statement is a clear signal and an invitation to the global community to come together for a nuclear free world.

Rightly said Vikas, Japan is so tech advanced that it can develop the Bomb any time they want.

The reason that they are not making it is they are the only nation that has suffered the impact of the bomb and they are not wanting to do anything silly by making this deadly piece of nuclear energy.

This should be like a guidance to South Africa and Taiwan

Lol Anil i myself think such abstract far out observations will bring us to understand what we are now after decades and years of Political and History being discussed with reference to our pasts..USA wont really come to help Japan and Japan is as much a Roman with Nato and is a old tech strategician where Military in todays world is best produced during a war... I myself believe in many countries not competeing further in tech industry but buying producing all way like Pakistan could bring its Refrigeration and Airconditioning costs down by 50% once a 3 some Billion USD project of Compressors ’ is put up and many scientistfic institutions can dwell around such projects or more deconcentrated technologies..........

Japan is a freind to world within its imperial lineage but no country really wants it to go ’dirty’
